Nigeria’s Super Falcons have returned to Lagos from Ghana’s capital, Accra where they lost 1-0 to the Black Queens in the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, AWCON qualifier.
The team and officials arrived the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Lagos on Sunday night.
The media officer of the team, Oluchi Tobechukwu who confirmed the team’s arrival Sunday night thanked Nigerians for their support as the nine-time Africa champions booked a place in the final round of the qualifier after wining the enounter 2-1 on aggregate.
“We appreciate Nigerians for the massive support despite the narrow defeat,” the Media officer said on Facebook
She noted that despite advancing to the final qualifying stage, more work is needed to be done for the higher task ahead
“We have advanced to the next stage in the qualifiers.
“More work to be done as we recognise the higher task ahead. We are the Super Falcons of Nigeria.”
The Falcons progressed to the final round where they would most likely play the Lady Elephants of Ivory Coast in February 2022.
The Lady Elephants defeated Niger 9-0 in their first leg and play the return leg on Monday.
Nigeria is the Most successful Africa Women’s national team in the continent after winning nine out of eleven editions of the AWCON.
The 12th edition of the tournament will be hosted by Morocco from 2 to 23 July 2022
